What Is United Healthcare Hearing?

TPA is an acronym for third-party administrator. Some health insurance companies use TPAs to manage some or all of their hearing health benefits. United Healthcare Hearing is a TPA for some of United Healthcare’s hearing benefits. If you have a UHC plan, you may have hearing benefits from United Healthcare Hearing.

United Healthcare vs. United Healthcare Hearing: Is There a Difference?

United Healthcare is a health insurance company offering Medicare Advantage, employer-based, Medicaid, and individual health plans. It owns United Healthcare Hearing, which administers some, but not all, of its hearing benefits. Depending on your plan, your hearing coverage may be through either one. Stanford Hearing is a participating provider with both.

United Healthcare Hearing Aid Providers Near Me

These providers accept the rates and limits implemented by UHC to get high-caliber hearing healthcare that fits your budget. Stanford Hearing is thrilled to be a member of both networks at our hearing centers in Sioux Falls, Buffalo, and Madison

How Does UHC Hearing Work With My Insurance Plan?

Hearing care benefits from United usually cover hearing evaluations and hearing aid fittings,  as well as discounts on hearing aids. The specifics vary based on your specific plan. Our care coordinators can help you determine your exact coverage since we are in-network with them.

Hearing Aids Coverage

It really depends on your specific plan. Their plans provide varying levels of coverage. Some plans include a network of participating hearing care providers offering pre-negotiated prices, and other plans have fixed allowances or copayments for devices. The style and features of the devices affect the price you pay as well, with basic models typically costing less than advanced models equipped with features like directional microphones, tinnitus masking, or Bluetooth connectivity. Additionally, the severity of your hearing loss will impact the amount your plan covers. The company’s website does not provide specific price ranges, possibly because the coverage varies widely. For example, individual and family plans might cover up to $2,000 per ear every 36 months, suggesting they cover hearing aid costs ranging from $1,000 to $2,000 each. Medicare Advantage Plans rarely pay in full for devices. But, the plans usually cover hearing evaluations. Certain plans may also include some hearing aid coverage from in-network providers with copays between $375 and $1,425 per hearing aid.

Which Hearing Aid Brands Does UHC Hearing Cover?

If your plan includes device coverage, you may be able to get prescription hearing aids from Phonak, Unitron, Starkey, or Resound. Every plan doesn’t cover every listed brand. However, our care coordinators can help you figure out which brands are included in your particular plan. They also have their own line of hearing aids called UHC Relate.

Are United Healthcare Hearing Devices Locked?

UHC Relate hearing aids are locked, which means they can only be serviced at a Relate servicer. Unlocked hearing aids, on the other hand, can be serviced at any hearing center. All of Stanford Hearing’s devices are unlocked.

How Can I Use My Benefits?

Phone Stanford Hearing to book an appointment. Our coordinators will go over your benefits and schedule your appointment at your preferred location.

Your provider will learn about your lifestyle and communication challenges. Next, you’ll have a complete hearing evaluation. Finally, your hearing specialist will explain your results and discuss a treatment plan if you have hearing loss. If needed, they will then help you select the best hearing aids to combat your hearing loss. You’ll have the opportunity to test them out with a free trial if you’d prefer.

Then, we will order your devices and handle your insurance claims.

At the following visit, your hearing care provider will fit your new devices and teach you how to use them.
