4 Questions You Should Ask Your Audiologist Before your Hearing Aid Fitting

Hearing Aid Fitting

In order to be as prepared as possible for your hearing aid fitting, you should ask your audiologist a series of questions before you go in for the appointment. If you do this, then you will have all of the information needed before you actually go in for your hearing aid fitting. Here is a list of some of the most important questions to ask your audiologist before your hearing aid fitting.

1. How much does the hearing aid fitting cost?

This is one of the most important things to know about your hearing aid fitting appointment. Because hearing health is an important investment, it’s essential to understand what costs are associated with the services. If you have insurance, then you should figure out whether or not this appointment will be covered under your plan. Many health insurance policies have coverage for this sort of appointment, but not all. So don’t hesitate to contact your provider to find out what is available.

2. How long will the appointment last?

The last thing you want to happen at your hearing aid fitting appointment is for you to have to run out because you have somewhere else to be and you didn’t realize that the appointment would last this long. Your audiologist should be able to give you a pretty good estimate of how long the appointment will take.

3. What will happen at the appointment?

Your hearing aid fitting appointment will include a number of different procedures and events. So, you should ask your audiologist exactly what will happen so you know what to expect before you actually show up for the appointment. This can help to relieve any feelings of nervousness that you may have about the appointment. Most hearing aid fittings include: programming of your devices and settings, educating you on proper removal and insertion of the devices and how to care for and maintain them.

4. Should I do anything to prepare for the appointment?

Most of the time audiologists will probably tell you it is unnecessary to prepare for hearing aid fitting appointments. However, some may recommend that you read up on the hearing aid model that you will be getting. If you read up on your model, then it will help you understand it better and possibly know how to use it better before you receive it.
